Meet some of the team …
Having been with the magazine from the early days, Jimmy’s passion for music has seen him write scores of articles for XYZ over the past five years. He’s an avid live music fan and takes pride in championing the best new acts for our ‘New Music’ feature each month. Jimmy is also a keen photographer and has interviewed the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, Debbie Harry, Elbow, The Bronx, The Horrors, Gary Numan, Dry The River, Yeasayer and many more during his time at XYZ.
Maison – Interviews / Event Picks / Release Reviews
The resident authority on all that’s club, ‘Maison’ has also been with XYZ from the start. Like Jimmy, he stays firmly on the pulse when it comes to what’s coming up and has written features for XYZ for years, interviewing a range acts from Annie Mac through to Fatboy Slim during his time at the mag. Also very handy with a camera, after a brief hiatus, Maison is back to make sure readers are kept up with the best of what’s on locally club wise. Watch this space.
Rabbit – Release Reviews / Event Picks / Online Media
‘Rabbit’ has just finished his degree – BA, Media & Journalism, and having been in charge of XYZ’s listings for the past year or so, now also assists with keeping the website up to date with the latest in what’s on. A strict task-master when it comes to proofing, we’ll be pleased to have him around at deadline now.
Ian Greenland – Team Coordinator / Photographer
Ian is a professional photographer and coordinates the team of writers and photographers at the magazine. He can’t go anywhere without headphones on so friends accost him in the pub and say he blanked them when they shouted his name in the street. He loves the Smiths but thinks Morrissey’s a bit of a cock. His old-ass, seriously needs-updating website is greenlandphotography.com
James Finburg (JDF) – Previews / Live Reviews / Release Reviews
As founding member of the seminal Brighton punk band, Shattered Phallus, JDF has impeccable musical credentials. His claim to fame is that he once served Pete Doherty a pint of beer and in his spare time he enjoys growing and shaving beards. His columns have become notorious and XYZ is his last hope, having been sacked from every other publication he’s written for.
Emma Holness – Photographer
Emma is a first year student studying BA Photography at university. She focuses on street style around Brighton in the “Threads” fashion feature, searching for the freshest and hottest looks of the season. Beware, she may stop you if you are looking good!
Emma loves attending festivals, exhibitions and music events – her first gig shoot for XYZ was The 1975 at Concorde2.
Amber Ainsworth – Previews / Live Reviews / Release Reviews
Having almost completed a degree in Music Journalism with one year to go, Amber hopes to live a life of music writing and enjoying plenty of gigs and festivals. She has been an avid collector of music from a young age and isn’t afraid to share that her first album was The Spice Girls. Her music tastes vary but she tends to go for a lot of indie or electronic stuff, think anything from The Maccabees, Joy Division to Bonobo and Four Tet. Her ITunes library generally confuses people and she once met Bryan Ferry in a lift at the Eurostar.
