TOM’s Film Club and Nosferatuesdays presents:
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is the first of a new series of high-quality film screenings in our beautiful venue.
Strange things are afoot in Bad City. The Iranian ghost town, home to prostitutes, junkies, pimps and other sordid souls, is a place that reeks of death and hopelessness, where a lonely vampire is stalking the town’s most unsavoury inhabitants. But when boy meets girl, an unusual love story begins to blossom.
Shot in striking Black-and-White and boasting an effortlessly cool soundtrack, featuring Radio Tehran, Federale, Kiosk and old call backs to Ennio Morricone’s spaghetti western scores of the 1960s, Ana Lily Amirpour’s A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is one of the most impressive debut features of recent years and it is fast becoming a cult classic, and quite possibly the best ‘vampire western’ since Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark.
“By turns funny, vaguely creepy and too cool for school, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is certainly unusual — but also seductive and strange enough to stick in the memory like a fever dream.” Kim Newman, Empire
In association with Scalarama
