August Burns Red + Being as an Ocean + Hundredth, The Haunt, February 15

Many feel that the hardcore scene in Brighton has been somewhat diminished with indie/pop bands taking over. However, on Saturday night American metal core giants, August Burns Red took to the stage of The Haunt and the scene looked anything but dead. Having only just played to a sold out Underworld in London the night before, the band had the crowd in the palm of their hands from the get-go. Bodies were flying as stage divers threw themselves from the stage, or swam across the sea of sweaty fans to reach vocalist Jake Luhrs as the band ripped through their setlist, delivering an outstanding performance.  Main support came from melodic hardcore band, Hundredth who delivered an impressively energetic performance and already seemed to have a firm fan base in Brighton. To top off the all-American lineup was Being As An Ocean who have been co-supporting the tour with Hundredth. They gave a strong and emotional performance, with vocalist Joel Quartuccio choosing to perform on the floor with the crowd. With a sizeable turn out for three very talented international bands, Saturday night proved that the hardcore scene in Brighton is very much still alive and kicking.
